It seems that every season, the question is the same: what are the latest trends in home decor? All the magazines, stores and all the home shows on television have feature articles and displays around the latest trends and ideas.

Everywhere we see the push to freshen up, warm up or pump up your space – lots of “pressure” from everywhere. So many of the expectations seem unrealistic – suggestions of paint, new rugs, total overhaul of rooms – it can get expensive. One of the best ways to get a handle on trends and home fashion is to plan a visit to the current show homes in your city. When you think about it, builders hire top designers who are up to date on all the current trends and considerable time and effort is spent to make these homes inviting and current. Go to the areas of the city that are appealing to your type of lifestyle. If you have young children, concentrate on the areas near elementary schools and parks, if your children have already left the “nest”, look at condos or multi-unit projects. If modern is your style, high rises, lofts or estate homes may be the place to look. By going to these homes you will get design ideas, see the new furniture styles and possibly get inspiration for some great renovation projects as well. What a great way to spend a Sunday, either with your partner or a friend, and best of all it’s free.
